Of course there are really no secrets to success. These are well known principles that, if understood and acted upon, will lead you forward on the journey of success. And success is a journey, not a place. To be truly successful you must continually move forward.

Here is the first of seven points to consider:

1. Clarity: Perhaps Zig Ziglar said it best, “Be clear on who you are and what you want.” Ask yourself these basic questions:

What do you believe in and stand for?
What is most important in your life?
What would you pay, fight, suffer, and die, for?
What do you really care about?
What do you really want to do with your life?
What would you dare to dream if you knew you could not fail?

The answer to these questions will help you be clear in your values, vision, mission, purpose, and goals. Then you need to:

Decide exactly what you want in life.
Specify what it really means to you.
Identify the true value attached to it.
Determine the path to get there from here.
Make your own detailed plan of action.
Accept what you may have to give up to get there.
Reaffirm your sincerity and the goal before you.

The person you see is the person you will be. Visualize your success as you move toward it. Whatever your goal imagine it already within your grasp. See yourself truly being that very person and you will find yourself moving forward toward your goal, your vision, your dream. It is the clarity of your vision that makes it happen.

The post REM for a Healthy Lifestyle first appeared on Coach Adam Cobb.

For the last several weeks I’ve been focused on REM, not rem sleep but Reading, Exercise, and Meditation. Its made a big impact on not only my energy, but my memory, and quality of life. Find out what order works for you and start with 10 minutes minimum of each.

Reading:

I find that in the morning when I’m having my Pure Greens and breakfast Reading fits perfect. I’m reading constantly throughout the day, mostly on topics of health, nutrition, exercise, and coaching, but my readings in the morning are reserved for more spiritual reading and investing into my faith.

Exercise:
Then I’m off to the gym or track for Exercise, usually 30 to 50 minutes total.

Meditation:
Now comes the most important part and also the most neglected by most. By now meditation is known to be important, it has shown to have major benefits in stress relief which can significantly influence weight loss or as I like to say “health gain”. As if that’s not enough, many athletes, celebrities and leaders in the fields of business and success turn to meditation as their source for centering.

Back to my REM, after Exercise it’s time for me to complete my REM for the day. When I’m done stretching (and I hope you are stretching), either right in the gym, a bench on the riverwalk, central park or my balcony, I make time for meditation. Usually I spend 10 to 20 minutes to work the biggest muscle of all, the muscle of the mind.

Some people like to meditate first thing in the morning and if that works for you then that’s excellent, personally even though my energy is high right when I wake up I have more energy after I workout which makes this time optimal. Recently at Duke Integrative Medicine I asked the brilliant mind of Dr. Jeff Brantley, meditation leader, when is the best time to meditate and he answered, “during the part of your day when you experience the highest level of energy”. That answer confused me at first because I was always under the impression that when I felt calm and peaceful I should meditate, well guess what? If I meditate at that time, I’m falling asleep.

YOUR REM: ask yourself, When is the best time for my REM? How long will I give myself to complete my REM?

Important Note – for the people that think “I just don’t have enough time”, stop being selfish. The 30 minutes daily it will take you to make REM a part of your healthy lifestyle will provide you the ability to be a better listener, better communicator and better human being.

Make the time to Find Your Center

Cheers with Water,

Our previous post mentions Chlorella as one of the ingredients in Pure Greens. Several have asked, “What is Chlorella?” and that’s a good question to ask! It’s always a good idea to check into the ingredients of the food preparations we eat. We sometimes ignore those hard to pronounce ingredients at our peril. The good news is, although Chlorella may look hard to pronounce it really isn’t (Klor-Ella) and it really is a great source of good nutrition.

Genus Chlorella is a single-celled green-colored algae which belongs to the phylum Chlorophyta. It is spherical in shape and only about 2 to 10 μm in diameter — that’s small! Chlorella contains the green photosynthetic pigments chlorophyll-a and -b in its chloroplast. Through photosynthesis it multiplies rapidly requiring only carbon dioxide, water, sunlight, and a small amount of minerals to reproduce. That makes it great for the environment, too.

The name Chlorella comes from the Greek word chloros, which means green, and the Latin diminutive suffix ella, which means small.

The German biochemist and cell physiologist, Otto Heinrich Warburg, was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for his research on cell respiration in 1931. Warburg also studied photosynthesis in Chlorella.

Melvin Calvin, at the University of California, received the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1961 for the research he conducted on the pathways of carbon dioxide assimilation in plants using Chlorella.

In recent years, researchers have made less use of Chlorella as an experimental organism because it lacks a sexual cycle and, therefore, the research advantages of genetics are unavailable. Instead, interest and research as a food source has increased.

Many people believed Chlorella could serve as a successful source of food and energy because its photosynthetic efficiency can, in theory, reach 8% which is comparable with other highly efficient crops such as sugar cane, corn, and sugar beats. Chlorella is also an attractive food source because it is high in protein and other essential nutrients.

When dried, Chlorella it is about 45% protein, 20% fat, 20% carbohydrate, 5% fiber, and 10% minerals and vitamins. However, because it is a single-celled alga, harvest posed practical difficulties for its large-scale use as a food source until suitable mass-production methods were developed which are now being used to cultivate Chlorella in large artificial circular ponds.

This tiny algae, highly nutritious and health-supporting in a very big way, is one of several important ingredients in the exclusive Pure Greens blend.

Zero in my refrigerator; replaced with hummus.

2. Ketchup has a 4 month shelf life

Does not exist in my kitchen; substituted hot sauce.

3. Mustard has a 8 month shelf life

Very common condiment to go bad.

4. Eggs – 1 month shelf life

Hard boil the rest if expiration is approaching.

5. Meat – 1 year freezer shelf life

Less freeze; more nutrients.

6. Canned Veggies – 2 yearshelf life

During client refrigerator clean outs, I’ve seen 4-5 year old can veggies! Replace with fresh greens.

Writing my own poetry opens my appreciation for the work of others. There are amazing thoughts, insight, interpretation, advice, guideance, and so much more, captured in the moment of the poem. Let me share with you today the wise words of William Henley in his poem, Invictus.

Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the Pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath & tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds and shall find me unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.

– William Ernest Henley

Thinking Well has so many components to it. One of of them being the noise that surrounds us day in and day out.

Today is all about The Media Detox. When was the last time you didn’t watch any television and powered off your cell phone. Yesterday I did a media detox, its a way to unplug, hit the hard reset and I highly recommend it to you.

Instead of eating in front of the television, put your favorite music on and enjoy your meal. For myself, I jammed out to some of my favorite Christmas tunes and got really festive. Typically, if you choose music instead of television your creative awareness heightens and can lead to activities like reading, writing, drawing, meditation, exercise, or soaking up some sun.

Where do I start with the benefits of powering off your cell? You can experience all of the above activities and include peace of mind. Ask yourself, “How often do I enjoy activities or just silence without a ringer or notification going off?” It’s
either call, text, email, bbm, facebook update, tweet, etc.

If you are a media detox virgin and don’t feel comfortable with the idea then communicate with your loved ones first then shut everything down for just an hour and create an hour of power in your life today.

For those more experienced do a whole day, move your body, allow thoughts to enter your mind and act on them without clouding them or numbing the ideas with TV and Cell phone poison. So many people tell me they need to just get away. I say, “Do a media detox and go wherever you want to in your mind and spirit right now.”

Don’t wait another minute. Your soul will thank you.
