Happy Christmas!

Recently a few family members of mine have lost weight and improved their health, they have received some compliments, some good and the others, we’ll just say… I read this article in the LA Times health section and wanted to share this valuable and funny article. Happy Christmas Eve, enjoy the family time, food and friends.

Moms often tell their kids, “If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all.”

Well, lots of people (including moms) might think they’re saying something nice when it comes to complimenting you on your weight loss, when they’re actually doing just the opposite. And then there are folks who, without even trying, hand you the perfect compliment you’ll cherish forever.

Friends & Relations

I was standing next to my aunt, who is in her upper 50’s but is in good shape, and probably a size 8. My grandma said to me, “Wow, you are as wide as your aunt.” I was like, “Uhhhh…thanks?”

Today someone I work with asked me, “Have you lost weight?” My response was, “Yes,” and then he proceeded to tell me, “You look so much better. I cannot believe how much better you look.” And then said it one more time…” I said, “Thank you,” and walked away, but compliments like this always leave me going “Did I look that bad before?” Why can’t someone just say “You look nice” or “You look great” and leave it at that?

The best compliment I have ever received? “Wow!” That was it. I walked in the door and the guy said “Wow.” Oh, add to that the eyes that were about the size of dinner plates, and the jaw that was then scraping the floor. Isn’t that all we need… “Wow!”

One day at work a couple of my coworkers were standing near my desk. They were talking about losing weight and one looked at me and said, ”Oh yeah, she has lost a lot of weight … she was huge.” I simply sat there and did not know what to say. Yeah, I guess I was a lot bigger, but never had anyone tell me I was huge.

Parents Who Are Trying

From my mother, who always tells my same-weight-as-always husband how slim he looks when I’ve actually lost 20 pounds: “Oh, yes, you look good too darling. Ah, you’ll always have a big bum, though, won’t you.”

Mom said to me, “You look a lot younger than before you started losing weight.” I love Mom. She always gives me compliments when I’m least expecting it.

My dad told me that I lost a chin. Trust me, this was a major breakthrough with him. He sort of fails at compliments.

Just the other day one of my parents was complimenting me on my weight loss, and my first response was, “Thanks but I still have 30 lbs to go! …whenever we do have those bad days….remember the things we did right!

Going to get my workout on, remember if you don’t use it you lose it, Christmas Eve, Christmas day, everyday that’s the Adam way. fa la la la la la la la la…

PS. Wow!
