Weekends We Get Ahead

image1

What Do Your Weekends Consist Of?

Several people over the the last month have asked me the question,

“How do I start waking up with energy?”

My answer is always the same,  Rise with a Reason.

I used to let the battle of the bed win, until I followed my mentor’s advice, (thank you Uncle Joe.)

His advice was more of a mantra and out of all the wisdom he shared with me before he graduated to heaven this mentor mantra is what I hear echo in my mind every weekend, “Weekends We Get Ahead”

Next month, I’ll shoot a video in more detail about this subject, specifically how my mentality shifted and how you can pivot your path to purpose. (Get rid of the guilt! Did I hit a sensitive spot? Hope so!)

80% of people hate their jobs, stated in Deloitte’s Shift Index Survey.  I’m a true believer that this is the culprit. So quit your job and start doing what you love right now, right? Wrong answer.

For now, remember that if you do not love what you do, then keep making money at your job to support yourself AND spend 30 minutes every morning or night and a minimum of 7.5 hours on the weekend to develop your passion project.

At this rate you will spend 10 hours a week and 40 hours a month of quality time not on your job but on your future career

There are few things in this life of ours that fuel us and fire us up more than loving what you do on a daily basis.

Before I share how I got to the place of being excited everyday and waking up with massive amounts of energy (next month’s video).

I encourage you to commit 10 days to these 3 points that truly directed my path.

Side note: I love Joseph Campbell’s work and his phrase “Follow Your Bliss.” When I first heard this I was like sign me up, but how do we get there, what are the first few steps?

3 Points to Direct your Path

1. Wake up one hour earlier

2. Move in the morning aka sweat for 20 or more minutes

3. Meditate for 5 minutes or more to start and end your day (download the insight timer app)

Many people before practicing there Big 3 always fight me on wanting to meditate before they move.

For most people, bad idea.

Why?

Meditate first thing in the morning and fall asleep only to forget about directing your path. There is incredible power in meditating after movement when you are in a peak state of energy while your heart rate is elevated. I teach clients how to harness the energy at peak times in their day to create more energy. This is a true game changer technique.

Word Of the Weekend (WOW): “To get to the place of loving what you do, first come from the place of having peace with what you have.”

When you start to practice the 3 Points to Direct your Path you will be in the right position to figure out your “WHY”.  Our “WHY” we do what we do helps define our direction and provides inspiration.

Simon Sinek gives a brilliant TED talk (3rd most watched) about “Discovering your Why“, here is the link to listen and find your why today.

We will explore this subject more in future Coaching Conversations.

Be sure to leave a comment on the blog below and let me know what you do to get ahead on the weekends!

Eat Fat to Lose Fat

EAT GOOD FAT AND LOSE WEIGHT

From the Fall of 2006 to the Summer of 2010, I worked will a client that wanted to lose weight but never could.

It seemed no matter what we did, she would stay the same weight with the same figure.

In the summer of 2010, we had a heart to heart talk and she confessed to me that she hadn’t quite followed the nutrition plan we had put together.

She told me that she didn’t trust the fact that eating high quality good fat foods would help her lose weight.

I could totally understand why she felt that way, when I kept telling her that you have to eat fat to lose fat. Really! Did that even make sense?

However, what I explained to her was that all fats are not created equal, and although I understood her reluctance, I explained why what I was suggesting actually works and asked her to just try.

Once she shifted her mindset and started eating high fat quality foods (obviously, in moderation), she dropped to her goal weight in 4 months verse the 4 years that she struggled.

In this week’s coaching conversation, I break down why healthy fats promote weight loss and provide you some quick homework to help you understand your body better.

WOW (Word of the Week: “Eat Good Fat to Lose Bad Fat.” @CoachAdamCobb @FYCmethod

Now that you know that all fats are not created equal, In the comment’s section of the blog, be sure to share the 1-2 types of good fats you will be adding to your diet.

#1 Reason You Fail to Get Healthy

WHAT DISTRACTS YOU FROM GETTING HEALTHY?

In today’s Coaching Conversation, Greg from LA asks, “ I have a major lack of willpower and discipline with my health and wellness. How do I stay consistent in what I know is good for me to be doing?”

This is one of the most common questions I get asked from my clients, friends and family–and I always answer it the same way. I ask them, “In what aspects of your life do you have discipline in today?

Think about this for a second…is it your Career, Family, Marriage, Parenting, Spirit Life?

What I tell my clients is that it’s important to start to link their health and wellness goals to the discipline they have in other areas of their life.  Just by reinforcing their confidence in the areas that they conquer today–it starts them down a path to build confidence in their health life.

WORD OF THE WEEK (WOW): “Distraction is the enemy of discipline” @CoachAdamCobb @FYCmethod #WOW

Watch this week’s Coaching Conversation to learn the technique to identify your distractions–which is step 1 in not allowing them to be your excuse for not following through on getting (and staying) healthy.

Please share in this week’s blog comments,“What distracts you from following through in your health and wellness?”

Next week I will share how to give yourself direction through all the everyday distractions.

To give back to the FYC community for all the love and support you have shown me and my team this year, I am so thrilled to be hosting a FREE BONUS COACHING CALL teaching you the 5 Ways to Be the Healthiest You in 2015. Click here to REGISTER for the FREE call.

Eat Ice Cream and Get Fit

SECRET TO A HEALTHY LIFE

In a recent blog, I gave you permission to TREAT yourself (not cheat yourself!). Pizza, ice cream, beer, wings, pancakes – those are treats! Last week, it was more than likely pumpkin pie, stuffing, corn bread, and fried turkey (if your family goes there)! Haha!

I had also shared with you what “The Rock” (Dwayne Johnson) considers his treat meals. I got a lot of questions on that in particular. Most importantly, “Can and should I eat what “The Rock” eats?”

I’m not saying you can or should eat what and how much he eats (or even how much I eat for that matter)!

What I am saying is that if you feel that urge to have something that is less healthy than your usual meals, or you’ve been missing something you really love to eat, you should have it!  You don’t have to live in an “either / or” world. You can be healthy and treat yourself (on occasion) too. In laymen terms, it’s the difference between a fad diet and making this your actual lifestyle.

WORD OF THE WEEK (WOW): “If you can plan your Treat Meal, you can Win The Week.” @CoachAdamCobb #WTW #FYCmethod #WOW

In my Pure Program (10 Day Health Kick Start), I instituted Day 11 to be Treat Day for this very reason. It really helps you truly savor that special treat and reminds you why you are working so hard to stay fit.

Check out this week’s Coaching Conversation video to make the MOST of your Treat Meal and quickly get back on track – I’m coaching you how to treat yourself! You will also want to watch the whole video so you don’t miss my two favorite spots to have my Treat Meal.

My question to you this week is, “what is your favorite Treat Meal and your favorite Treat Meal spot? Please share with our community in the blog comments.
